The Bible has a lot to say about self-deception. One verse that I come across frequently which pointedly confronts the tragic end of self-deception is found in Proverbs 14:12- “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”

The End of Deception is Death

If deception were personified as a person their main objection in life would be to get you to trust them unquestionably. Once you have fully given over your rights to think objectively, deception would gradually encourage you to think with your heart and not your head.
Once subjective truth reigns supreme, deception has made a disciple out of you and bids you go forward and make more disciples for the glory of death.

What’s most concerning about deception is that a person can live their entire life embracing a set of statements, ideas, and teachings to be true, yet all the while the very concepts they held so dearly were leading them to their own destruction. Like a fish baited by a dangling lure so is everyone who rejects “the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” (Jude 3)

From cult groups, to “said” Christians, to liberal thinkers, once a person leaves their brain at the door they suspend all objective inquiry; in turn, they are left with a feels good method outlook on life, in other words, if it feels good to them, even to the detriment of everyone else around them, they do it. Make no mistake about it, this kind of thinking leads to death. Anytime a people attempt to gag the word of God it is not as though they are void of any authority as they have deceived themselves to believe, rather they are left with another, subservient authority that has no power to give life. This too leads to death.

History speaks again

History indeed testifies that when the law of God is removed and people are free to do what is right in their own eyes chaos and destruction soon follow. The times of the book of Judges are a present reality in our day. With issues like the redefinition of marriage to the humanistic, God-hating education children are receiving from state schools you would think that those who have God’s law would speak God’s law, but unfortunately, the opposite is true. Those who profess to know Christ are being silenced. Pastors who have been given the call to preach the word of God in season and out of season are silent and as a result, the slithering serpent has gained a foothold in the Church. History has indeed repeated itself.

The Lord WILL prevail!

With all of the above being the case is there any hope for the Church? Will the Lord prevail and will the true children of God proclaim the Lord’s justice? Absolutely! The gates of hell WILL NOT PREVAIL! God’s kingdom has been called to be on the offense and in the wisdom of God, the dark times that He has permitted to take place in our day are serving as the means by which God’s true church is being awakened from her slumber. The Lord will prevail. The church of Christ will rise and the name of the Lord will be glorified in all the earth.

Be encouraged saints of God, but be encouraged as you go forward in the name of the Lord. Stand for righteousness, doing so with a heart filled with compassion for those who do not know the Lord. May our love for the Lord, rather then merely our love for people be the driving motivation that causes us to fulfill God’s Great Commission, and at the last when our time in this race has come to an end, may we be counted among God’s people who have not followed the ways of the world which seemed right in the eyes of men, but may we be counted as faithful before the eyes of the Lord.
