God wants to increase our faith. He does this in a variety of ways. One of the ways I have seen Him do this in my own life is by Him showing me my deficiencies. On one occasion Jesus told His disciples that without Him they could do nothing (John15:5).

Only when we see ourselves as lacking will we see Christ as our substance. He is the vine and we are the branches. He is the provider and we are provided for by Him.

All this reminds us that in ourselves we are lacking. What is it that keeps a person from seeing His great need for Christ other than his pride? Pride keeps us from seeing ourselves as weak and dependent. Pride tells us that we are enough and we are lacking in nothing.

On the other hand, humility says, “Though I am lacking, Christ the vine and He has all the nourishment I need.” So today, by faith will you find your satisfaction and fulfillment in self? or will you find it in Christ?

The person who trusts in Christ is the person who seeks to live dependent on Christ for everything, and when we fail to trust Him as we ought to we are not tossed out and rejected for our shortcomings, rather we are welcomed to come and find our rest in Him.

This is how our faith is increased as believers. When put in a situation to trust our own wisdom we go back to the vine who has provided wisdom for us in His written word. The humble man, the one who sees that He is not enough goes to the One who is more than enough.

By faith, look to Christ, today.
