Years ago there was a book that Joe Thorn wrote titled, “Preach to Yourself” as far as I can recall the book was solid. Whether or not you like the author or the title the truth is it’s important that we do preach the truth of God’s word to ourselves.
There are hundreds and thoughts of messages that we are receiving every day from the flesh, the world, and the devil, and unless we have something outside of ourselves to help us combat those thoughts, we will lose the daily battle of the mind, and in the end, there will be a host of unwanted-God dishonoring worldviews filling our hearts.
This is where preaching to yourself comes into play. How are you waging war against ungodliness today? What word from God are you holding on to today to aid you in the battle for your mind and heart?
This is the message I’m preaching to my soul today:
Proverbs 3:5-8– “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.
Edwin, throughout this day you are going to be tempted not to trust the Lord. You are going to be tempted to lean on your own understanding. You are going to be tempted to not acknowledge the Lord and you going to be tempted to make your own paths.
Edwin, don’t do that!
Follow the way of blessing, by submitting yourself to the Lord’s ways. Rather than folding when every sweet-smelling temptation seeks to entice you, trust that the Lord’s ways are better than anything the world, the flesh, and the devil have to offer.
Edwin, do not be wise in your own eyes today, instead, fear the Lord, and turn away from evil, and at the end of the day, you can sleep with a clear conscience knowing that you fought to keep your soul right with God.
This is how I’m preaching to my soul today, What about you? What are you preaching to your soul today?
