Proverbs 18:16- “A man’s gifts makes room for him and brings him before the great.”
Proverbs 22:29- “Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.”
These two verses remind the reader that training is not a hopeless endeavor. On the contrary, the long hours of study and preparation a person goes through in a given discipline can be a gift to themselves and society.
This skillful person in our text has made countless individual sacrifices to build up his skills, and yet, his skills are not meant to benefit himself but others around him as well. Therefore, this skillful person whose mind has been informed and instructed by the truth now has a responsibility to bring his creator glory in his dealings with the Kings he stands before.
These are the types of Civil representatives we need. Men who know the law of God and uphold the law of God. These men have a godlike aura about themselves in that they have been providentially called to represent the people. They are not God, so their powers of knowledge and skill are under the authority of God. If they cross the line in upholding His rules, they will be judged more strictly by their Creator.
These truths remind us that each person will one day stand before the Lord and give an account for what they did with the lot given to them. Whether you are a king or an obscure person, each one will receive from the Lord what he rightly deserves.
